Gladstone Skin Cancer Clinic

Our practice is pleased to offer full body skin checks using the state of the art microDERM system by Visiomed. microDERM is a professional imaging system for progressive early recognition of skin cancer and image documentation.

Doctors use this system as an aide to assist in the diagnosis of melanoma. Australia has the highest incidence of Melanoma in the world! So it makes sense to have regular skin checks. If caught early the chances of surviving Melanoma are much improved.

Our skin cancer clinic is staffed by Dr Stephen Rigby and Dr Pamela Rigby who has had additional training in skin cancer management.

  • Aims

Gladstone Skin Cancer Clinic aims for early detection and correct diagnosis, appropriate and effective treatment, improved quality of life for affected patient and reductions in overall costs/minimise time off work.

  • Techniques Used

Gladstone Skin Cancer Clinic uses the following techniques to asses our patients: thorough clinical examination, full body dermatoscopic imaging, documentation & comparison over time, advanced surgical techniques and individual/employer programs.

Treatment Options

Surgical removal is the most common method of management Skin Cancers.

Surgery has the advantage of a high cure rate as it provides a complete specimen to confirm the diagnosis and to ensure the adequacy removal of all tumours. The majority of surgical wounds, after excisions, can be closed by simple direct suture. However, in more difficult areas such as the nose and ear, simple closure is often not possible and local flap repair or skin grafting may be needed. These can be done in surgery making a referral to metropolitan centres unnecessary. Excellent cosmetic and functional outcomes have been achieved at the clinic using these methods.

Cryotherapy, curettage and diathermy are other treatment options offered at the clinic in appropriate cases.
